Blogging Behind The Scene: How Much Should You Charge Brands For Collaborations

Later that night I googled how much you should charge brands for collaboration. What is the base to calculate your rate? What I found was crazy. Because if I worked with what they said, I would have made tons of money out of blogging already. That when it hit me. I need to start a series to talk about the thing I have discovered in my blogging experience because there are a lot of other people who might not know these kinds of things no matter how small and irrelevant they are.

“CHANGE IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED, SURROUND YOURSELF WITH NEW PEOPLE AND BETTER MINDS, BE OPEN TO NEW RELATIONSHIPS, GOOD PEOPLE, AND BETTER MINDS.”

Hello, people! I hope your week is good so far. So, I am starting a new series on my blog, where every Tuesday I will be sharing with you something that I have learned along the way of my short blogging experience. I believe no matter how small the things I know about blogging, it might be a great help to someone else and vice versa, so I encourage you if you know something about the topic I am talking about in any of these posts, leave it in the comments down below and let other get value out of it and you then will feel like you have helped someone today, great feeling right?

So, today I wanted to start my series with something not discussed as often in the blogging world and many of us, small bloggers don’t know much about, which is how much should you charge a brand when you collaborate with it. Long story short, recently I have become friends with a great another Seattle blogger, and she mentioned something about hiring an intern to help her with the blogging work and she pays this intern, and the first thing that came into my mind and out of my mouth without even thinking, “DO YOU MAKE ENOUGH MONEY OUT OF BLOGGING TO HIRE SOMEONE ELSE TO HELP YOU WITH THE BLOGGING WORK?” I mean, I don’t even get any money to work with brands, so I was so surprised. She doesn’t have that much of big audience, a little bigger than mine, but not that much you know? So, she said, “yes, I do. I charge hundreds for a blog post and a hundred for my Instagram post and I said what? That is just crazy. That is great for her and I am so happy that she shared this with me because I have never thought that I could make money out of blogging except if I have hundreds of followers across all of my social media.

Here is the rate you need to know. For a blog post, you will charge $0.01 for a pageview, not a unique pageview, just a regular one. So, if you make a 1000 pageview a month, you basically would charge $10 for a sponsored post, so that is posts, but what about Instagram? Don’t worry they have a base for that too, which is basically the same, you charge $0.01 for a follower, so let’s say you have about 5000 followers on Instagram, then you would charge $50 for a sponsored image in there.

I hope you find this post helpful and if you have any extra information please leave it in the comments down below so others and I would gain value out of it. And if you have any question that wants other people to answer it, just also leave it in the comments down below.

Thoughts? I look forward to connecting further,

  1. The world of blogging is so complicated hey. I just started charging since the end of last year but it has been very complex to figure out. Sometimes I feel that I need a personal assistant to help me out with everything (maybe one day =P)

  3. There is so much to learn about the blogging world! Just remember, just do what works for you and not compare to other bloggers. Success will come naturally!

  4. Ah charging is so difficult. I usually just charge $9-12 per hour (most blog posts take me about four hours from shooting, editing, graphic designing, researching and writing). I haaaaaate when companies aren't willing to pay for posts. I have no problem turning them down. Great post!

  13. I recently discovered how much my content is worth. There is one site that I really love that broke it down by CPM as well but also includes cost of production (photographer, props, your own expertise). I totally think a series sharing these tools will help a lot of individuals! We need to know our worth! XO, Ellese

  14. that is actually a good rule of thumb . I wish I've read that when I first started blogging, before I would be super happy just getting free stuff.

    1. Yeah it feels like you are okay doing this, but then you read something like this and realize, my content worth more than this. I have no idea why no one shares information like this, it will be great for younger bloggers to know as well.

  15. This is one of the trickiest things for working with brands. There are no set rules for this and it basically comes down to the blogger herself - what value do you put in your work? The metrics you've shown makes a lot of sense though and can be used by bloggers who have no idea how much to charge.

  16. Ah, good for your blogger friend! :) I think it's so important to determine your worth and be able to justify your value for partnerships! Thank you for sharing your research and it's definitely something I'll consider if needed in the future. I've also heard of commissions ranging from 5% to 30%. There are so many ways for bloggers to be earning money off of collaborations it's really crazy in a positive way :)
